Where do you start? 
The biggest question new parents have is “Where do I start?”
Families who have been around a while know that 8th grade parents help with the fundraisers for Wolf Ridge and Junior Class parents take on the Post -Prom Party and all that it entails!  This year we will be asking on all “grade-level” parents take the lead on  fundraisers by planning and executing some of our other events.  Some events require an “all hands-on deck” requirement from all families.  BABS Night and filling out the schedule at the Cardinal Café are a couple.  Of course, parents whose children are involved in sports, drama, choir or other extra-curricular activities are called upon for other opportunities.

While all parents of any grade level are encouraged to help with any activities, we are looking for leadership/ownership from specific grade level parents.  Multiple children? You may choose which grade level you want to focus your efforts in or help with your youngest child’s fundraiser. Your expertise may be what the group needs most!

Here is an outline are our major events and grade level parent leadership:

6th Grade Parents – Spooktacular/Trunk or Treat
This event takes place in October and is coordinated with Divine Mercy School. A committee is needed to help plan and execute the event.  Contact Kris Sauer at ksauer@bacards.org with questions or to be part of the committee.

7th Grade Parents -  Cardinal Classic Golf Tournament
Parents assisting with this event do not need to be golfers! Parent volunteers from the 7th Grade will be asked to plan, help solicit donations from area businesses for raffle items, assist with registration, hospitality and  decorations as well as assisting with the on course games lead by students.  Contact Kris Sauer at ksauer@bacards.org with questions or to be part of the committee.

8th Grade Parents – Wolf Ridge
Our 8th Graders have traditionally spent a week at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center. Fundraising, organizational tasks and supervision are needed from 8thGrade parents during this year.  Julie Smisek coordinates the fundraising and volunteers for this fantastic experience. 9th Grade Parents – Cardinal Café
While EVERYONE needs to help at the Cardinal Café at the Rice County Fair, we need specific individuals to help recruit and head up shifts at the Café.  The majority of the planning is done by Ellie and Louie Wilder, but the tasks of filling shifts with volunteers takes persistence and creativity.  Are you up for the task?  Contact Kris Sauer at ksauer@bacards.org with questions or to be part of the committee.

10th Grade Parents - Holiday or Winter Gathering
10th  Grade parents have a great opportunity to get their creative hats on! Years ago we hosted an annual Holiday basket gathering.  That event went by the wayside but we are looking for some event or gathering that can bring people together for holiday or winter cheer while raising money for our general fund.  We need a brainstorming and planning to create the NEW Event! 11th Grade Parents - Post Prom Party
Junior Class parents plan and execute the post prom party.  Creative skills of planning and fundraising as well as organizing the night is part of this committee’s work.  

12th Grade Parents -Senior class parents are busy enjoying their child’s Senior year.  Their leadership is invaluable as mentors and creative idea makers! Jump in to be a mentor or lead to something you have helped with before!

This is just a start of the events that you could help with to start tracking YOUR Volunteer time. 
Alumni are asked to assist with our newest event BABASH Twin Cities.  This event will take place in October. Additional volunteers are needed to help host, serve  and decorate  at this event.  Contact Kris Sauer at ksauer@bacards.org with questions or to be part of the committee.

Home Fall & Winter Athletic Events
Volunteers are needed at all home high school events, including admission, concessions, and score table. Volunteers are also needed to work the “chain gang” at middle school and high school football games. On select weekends, score table assistance and officials are needed for volleyball and basketball tournaments. See sign up emails and/or contact AD Ed Friesen (efriesen@bacards.org) to volunteer

Pancake Breakfast (Feb/March): Held in the BA Cafeteria, the annual pancake breakfast is organized by our Lunch Ladies and Industrial Arts, with all proceeds going to their programs. Families are asked to help sell tickets, and volunteers are needed to help work the event.

BABS Night (April): BABS (BA Backers and Supporters) is a fantastic, fun evening consisting of live and silent auctions, food, beverages, and fun. It’s a great event to socialize with alumni, current and past parents, and friends all to raise much needed dollars for our beloved school. Plan to attend and if you can – committee members are needed to help with planning and organizing. Volunteers are also needed the day of the event. Heritage Days Parade (June): Every year, BA and DMCS have a float in the Heritage Days Parade. Students and families are invited to show their school spirit and participate by riding the float, walking and throwing candy/T-shirts/giveaways and playing in the band. Informal and fun, watch for emails and plan to meet up at North Alexander Park.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

  • Serve on the Home and School Association (Contact Michelle Jasinski or Jane Hillesheim)
  • Serve on the BA Activities Association (contact Ed Friesen)
All Hands On Deck!
If you are the kind of person who just wants to “show up to help” there are lots of opportunities to jump in and help.  We often need envelope stuffers throughout the year, especially in June for the Cardinal Club and in October for the Annual Fund Drive. These hours can even be done at home.  The office and custodial staff also needs help at certain times of the year.  Watch emails for additional volunteer needs.  

Tracking Hours
All families will be asked to submit their hours volunteered at Bethlehem Academy. Our hopes here are not to limit each family to 25 hours per year (12.5 hours for single parent families), but to encourage every family to participate in some way to bettering our school.  We know many families will surpass a 25-hour minimum and we want to honor those who can make those obligations while supporting families who may have difficult work schedules by making it possible for them to contribute too.   With all of these opportunities – there is a way for every family to help.
Tracking hours families volunteer also is helpful in highlighting our school when we apply for grants or recruit new families. 

What Counts and How do I track?
Any of the above committees or activities are trackable hours.  Classroom help and chaperoning  field trips can also be included but we ask you to max out your classroom/fieldtrip trackable hours at 8 hours of your 25-hour commitment.  If you have questions about what to report, contact Kris Sauer at ksauer@bacards.org . 
Our students, in their religion classes, will be doing service hours for the community. These hours are NOT included in the tracking of family volunteer hours.
Each family is asked to SELF REPORT their hours.  Use the link below to log YOURS!  We suggest that families report hours soon after completing them.  Periodic reminders and volunteer opportunities will also be included in email communications.
