Summer Reading Assignments



The faculty in the English department would like you to swim, bike, camp and hang out with your friends and family over the summer months. We would also like you to read the following book corresponding to your grade. For each book there is an outline and questions to guide and focus your reading. 



6th Grade:        Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson

7th Grade:        A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park

8th Grade:        Choose ONE of the following:

Code Talkers by Joseph Bruchac,
Iqbal by Francesco D’Adamo, or
Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson

English 9:        Night by Elie Wiesel

English 10:      Bless Me Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya

American Literature & Composition:

The Round House by Louise Erdrich, AND
Zeitoun by Dave Eggers

Reading & Writing:  a long way gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah

AP English Language and Composition: Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by J.D. Vance

AP English Literature and Composition:  The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
