How do I pay for my education after high school? This is a great question! There are many options. One of the options that does not require you to pay money back is through scholarships. Below you will find links to scholarship opportunities (both local and national) and search engines. In addition, please check out the Minnesota Office of Higher Education pamphlet on Grants & Scholarships as it is an amazing resource for navigating what it all means. LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: ATTENTION SOPHOMORES: Have you ever considered joining the American Legion Auxiliary? There is an American Auxiliary Juniors division - for daughters, granddaughters, and or sisters of anyone who has served or is serving in the military. Membership for those under the age of 18 is $8 year for Unit 43 in Faribault. Those students who are members for two or three consecutive years are eligible for even more scholarship opportunities! ATTENTION JUNIORS: Minnesota House of Representatives 2024 HS Page Program: Application due November 22, 2023 Be a House Page during one week of the 2024 February-May House of Representatives Legislative Session! Applicants must submit an application, 500-word essay and letter of recommendation. Applications available from Mr. Uphus or click the link above. SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS: Minnesota Credit Union Foundation Scholarship Council : Application due November 30th, 2023 Eighteen $1000 scholarships are available to credit union members throughout Minnesota, or a high school senior graduating in 2024 is eligible to apply. Applications are being accepted now until November 30th. More information and an online application can be found here: https://www.mncun.org/scholarship-council.html National Honor Society Scholarship: Application due November 30, 2023 Must be a high school senior, member of National Honor Society, and planning to attend an accredited U.S. college or university. Better Business Bureau Students of Integrity Scholarship: Application due January 1, 2024 Seniors graduation from a Minnesota or North Dakota high school are invited to apply for the Better Business Bureau's Students of Integrity Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to high school students who have demonstrated high character, leadership, and ethical values in their personal choices and actions. The application is due January 1, 2024. Learn more and apply HERE. HomeTown Credit Union Scholarship : Application Due April 12th, 2024 Two $1000 and two $500 scholarships are available to members of HomeTown Credit Union. Applicants must create a 1-to-3-minute video that shares one or more ways that people can establish and/or maintain financial wellness after high school. To be eligible, applicants must be a member of HomeTown Credit Union for 6 months prior to the application due date of April 12th, 2024. More information and an online application can be found here: https://www.hometowncu.coop/Resources/Youth-Services DELTA KAPPA GAMMA SCHOLARSHIP: Application due April 1st, 2024 The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was founded in 1929 to promote professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. The Faribault-Northfield chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma offers a $1000 competitive scholarship to a Northfield or Faribault High School, or Bethlehem Academy high school senior girl who intends to go to college and pursue a career in education. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of their academic record, desire to become a teacher, leadership and participation, and financial need. Applications are located in the counseling office or can be requeted digitally from Mr. Uphus. NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: Nitro Scholarship: (monthly deadline - available each month) Complete the application - just name, grad year, college and university you are looking at and you are eligible for a monthly drawing of $2,000. You don't have to sign up for alerts to enter. Nothing else required. Fostering Independence Higher Education Grants If you have ever been in the foster care system in Minnesota, you are eligible for a grant to cover the cost of attending any eligible Minnesota public or private college and university that is participating in the program. More information can be found in the link. If foster status applies to you, please indicate that when completing your FAFSA and the application will be made accessible to you. Raise Me (can start this scholarship in 9th grade) Through highlighting and rewarding certain academic and extracurricular activities, [RaiseMe] "pays" students for their achievements. Available at the University of Minnesota colleges, Gustavus, Augsburg, etc. There are also colleges out-of-state. Check out the options and opportunities. SCHOLARSHIP SEARCH ENGINES: Choose a search engine (a few are listed below) and create an account. You can make it as specific as you want. You will be inundated with options!
